[ON THE MOVE]
  • MARIE RIOU and CAROLIJN BROUWER, winning crew on Dongfeng Race Team on the last Volvo Ocean Race were announced as female sailors of the year at the World Sailing annual conference, Cypriot sailor PAVLOS KONTYDES, world champion in the Laser is mens sailor of the year.
  • At the same ceremony DONGFENG RACE TEAM received the prize as team of the year. The Fast40+ RAN VII is boat of the year and the CORPUS CHRISTI YACHT CLUB wins the sustainability prize

  • The WOMEN’S INTERNATIONAL MATCH RACING SERIES will be hosted for the first time in China in 2019.
  • CRE’ACTUEL, a company based in Rennes specialising in house building will be Bertrand de Broc’s partner for the Route du Rhum in the Rhum multihull class
  • The WORLD MATCH RACING TOUR is expected to return to monohulls in 2019 after the sale of the circuit to the CShine group was announced, according to Scuttlebutt. The 2018 world championship, planned for Shenzen from 8th to 12th November, has been cancelled.
  • The SWISS NATIONAL TV AND RADIO NETWORK has joined Alan Roura as his media partner until the 2020 Vendée Globe.
  • The VOLVO OCEAN RACE has published the Volvo High Density Traffic Report issued by the committee of independent experts looking into the fatal collision between Vestas 11th Hour Racing and a fishing boat at the finish of the leg between Melbourne and Hong Kong in January 2018.
  • The NEW YORK YACHT CLUB will host the 2020 IRC/ORC World Championship.
  • The IMOCA class officially announced its programme for the 2018-2021 Imocal Globe Series on Wednesday in Saint-Malo with eight races given a weighting ranging from one to ten. It will in particular include the Valencia Mediterranean Globe Series (solo or double-handed) next spring.
  • ARMEL LE CLÉAC’H (Banque Populaire IX), THOMAS COVILLE (Sodebo) and YVES LE BLÉVEC (Actual) have officially registered for the Lorient-Bermuda-Lorient (start on 5th May 2019), after François Gabart signed up.
  • HEMPEL becomes the “official paint partner” of World Sailing and the title sponsor of the World Cup Series; the Danish coatings brand were the title sponsor of the Aarhus Worlds.
  • WORLD SAILING might finally launch an offshore racing event for the 2024 Olympic Games: the Board of World Sailing proposed at its annual meeting in Saratoga (Florida) a submission for an mixed two persons keelboat offshore voted for 7 to 6. So it now goes to the general assembly to decide by the end of the weekend. Another submission proposed to race this event on a non-foiling boat of 6 to 10 metres.
  • MAXIME SOREL, who starts the Route du Rhum on Sunday in Class40, has just announced in Saint-Malo the continuation of his partnership with his sponsor V & B but moving up to an Imoca: he will compete the next two seasons and then the Vendée Globe aboard the former Souffle du Nord (VPLP / Verdier plan). A co-title partner is sought to complete the budget of between 2.7 and 2.8 million euros over 2 years.
