Yann Penfornis: “Now, the third chapter in the history of Multiplast”

Managed for 28 years by Gilles Ollier then for 13 by Dominique Dubois, legendary French boatbuilders and multi discipline composites specialists Multiplast has just recently changed hands. On Tuesday the takeover of the Carboman group to which the Vannes shipyard belongs was completed by HBH group which is headed by Damien Harlé and Jean-Denis Bargibant. Yann Penfornis, who remains managing director, explains the implications of this takeover.

Ultim: The calendar 2022-2023 is in place

Last Tuesday at the Paris Boat Show, the Nautic, OC Sport Pen Duick confirmed that Brest will host the start and finish of the Single-handed Ultim Round the World Race in 2023. It is a race which a lot more details will become known over the coming months, as also will the program for the seasons 2022 and 2023 the full details of which are not fully formalized.

Last Thursday, Yannick Bestaven won the Vendée Globe, crossing the finish in third place after Charlie Dalin and Louis Burton, but benefiting from a redress of 10 hours and 15 minutes for taking part in the operation to rescue Kevin Escoffier. With the first nine boats in, Tip & Shaft can draw the first conclusions from this ninth edition with comments from some skippers.

Big manoeuvres under way for the Ultims

Last Monday the Ultim 32/23 class revealed a change in governance with the departure of managing director Emmanuel Bachellerie, who will now devote himself entirely to the general management of the Brest Ultim Sailing company whose capital has evolved. The class itself should announce the new mode of governance in the first quarter of 2021 and also a proposed timetable for the years to come. Tip & Shaft tells you more.
