On the market: change at the head of the Transat Jacques Vabre

DEPARTURES & APPOINTMENTS

GILDAS GAUTIER, who has already been at the helm of the race for 10 years until the 2019 edition, and ANTOINE ROBIN, who has been working in the field of ocean racing for more than 10 years, notably through his agency Comme#Together, have been appointed at the head of the Transat Jacques Vabre, succeeding Caroline Caron, the former general manager.

BAPTISTE HULIN won the Espoir 2022 selection from the Mer Entreprendre network and so will therefore compete in the Route du Rhum aboard the Class40 Rennes-Saint-Malo.

WORLD SAILING has officially submitted to the Organizing Committee of the Los Angeles 2028 Games sailing’s application request to rejoin the program of the Paralympic Games, from which it has been absent since Rio.

THE AMERICA’S CUP ORGANIZERS have unveiled the format of the Women’s and Youth America’s Cup, which will take place during the 37th edition on AC40s. The two events will be open to twelve teams, divided into two pools of six – on the one hand those backed by an existing challenge, on the other, teams specifically registered only for these events.

EMIRATES TEAM NEW ZEALAND have signed a deal with Auckland City to relocate to the base previously occupied by British challengers Ineos.

GRAND PAVOIS ORGANIZATION has announced that around 25 Class40s will set off on April 1st for the second edition of the Défi Atlantique, the crewed return race from the Route du Rhum which will start from Guadeloupe, a major partner of the event, bound for La Rochelle via a stopover in Horta (Azores).

PORT-LA-FORÊT celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer with among other things a photo exhibition and the hosting of the Solitaire du Figaro, a first since 1992.

GOLDEN GLOBE RACE: there will finally be 18 to take the start of the second edition of the Golden Globe Race (and not Ocean Globe Race, as erroneously indicated in Tip & Shaft #323) on September 4, the village in Les Sables d’ Olonne will open on August 20.

PHILIPPE POUPON will take part in the next Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe aboard the former Pierre 1er renamed Flo, named after the film that his companion Géraldine Danon is about to make on the life of Florence Arthaud. He has decided to support the Sea Shepherd association.

THE SSL GOLD CUP will be broadcast live on Twitch and launches its virtual competition, the e-SSL Gold Cup.

RORC TRANSATLANTIC RACE : The notice of race for the transatlantic race which will start on 8 January 2023 from the Canary Islands to Grenada has just been published. Registration is open.

 

LAUNCHES

THE OCEAN FIFTY CLASS has announced the launch of a new transatlantic race, the Route des Terre-Neuvas, run with a reduced crew, which will start in July 2023 from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon bound for the bay of Saint-Brieuc.

FRANCE SAILGP TEAM is launching a call for applications for young people under 21 wishing to join the SailGP Inspire program and sail in Waszp during the Saint-Tropez stage (September 10-11). Applications close August 8.

THE OCEAN RACE announced the launch of One Blue Voice, a campaign for a Universal Declaration of Ocean Rights. Dole Sunshine Company will is also committed as a partner for positive change in the race around the world.

THE CAPE HORN RACE, race around Cape Horn, scheduled between January 23 and February 9, 2026, has launched its new website.
