French ocean racing: competition between banks is hotting up

From the Arkéa Ultim Challenge to the recent Banque Populaire Grand Ouest Trophy and so including the Transat CIC and the CIC Normandy Channel Race and of course including the Figaro, Class40, Imoca and Ultims in the colors of Crédit Mutuel, Arkea and their competitors, the sponsorship battle is hotting up between major players in the French banking sector who see a great value in partnerships in offshore and ocean racing sailing. The 2020 Vendée Globe is due to start ‘behind closed doors’ with no local public audience on Sunday November 8 at 1:02 p.m local time in Les Sables d’Olonne. Despite the context, this ninth edition is a record breaker on many different fronts with 33 participants and a budget of 16 million euros (against 12.3 in 2016). Tip & Shaft has analyzed the budget for the Vendée Globe.

Jason Carrington: “I’m a big fan of Imoca boats”

World renowned boat builder Jason Carrington has had something of a dream order book since setting up Carrington Boats in November 2017 with the Carkeek designed Fast40 Rán. The new Imoca Hugo Boss for Alex Thomson Racing, INEOS’ UK’s Britannia as well as their nearing completion AC75 boat 2 are complemented by a part completed Ocean Race Imoca 60 which is currently on hold but which may become available. 2024 olympics: The yards positioning themselves for the offshore boat

There was another step forward in Februray in World Sailing’s selection process for the equipment to be used in the new mixed double offshore event in the Paris Olympics in 2024. The international federation published a list of the twelve boats presented by builders, who will be able to compete for the bid to tender when it is launced. For the yards, it is time to move their pawns forward as they look ahead. Tip & Shaft looks at what is going on.
