The beautiful people convened last Thursday at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris for a press conference to present the Orient Express Team challenge which will represent France at the 37th America’s Cup in September 2024 in Barcelona. Tip & Shaft tells us the story of how this project which has been initiated by Stéphane Kandler and Bruno Dubois and supported by the Accor group, has achieved lift off.  

Defender Emirates Team New Zealand and challenger of record Ineos Team UK unveiled the Protocol for the 37th America’s Cup on Wednesday. Tip & Shaft has spoken with some experts to decipher the document that outlines the 37th edition.

The 36th America’s Cup was retained by Emirates Team New Zealand on Wednesday with their 7-3 victory against Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. Tip & Shaft reviews this edition with the views of experts involved in this campaign, and also with Bertrand Pacé and Franck Cammas.

A member of  the American Magic design team, French engineer, Dimitri Despierres explained to Tip & Shaft what happened on the first two days with the score at 2-2 between Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.

Now almost sixty, Bertrand Pacé is one of France’s most experienced match racing sailors (world champion in 1994), but has also taken part in the America’s Cup (seven times), and the Tour de France (eight wins). Before the start of the final of the Prada Cup, Tip & Shaft talked to the sailor from Dunkirk.

At the age of 54, Thierry Fouchier is one of France’s most experienced sailors as far as the America’s Cup is concerned, having taken part six times and after winning with the Americans on BMW Oracle in 2010. A consultant for Canal+ TV for the 36th Cup, the sailor from Marseille told Tip & Shaft about the first days of the Prada Cup.

At 55, Philippe Presti, who rose to prominence through Olympic sailing (Soling, Finn and Star), is now one of the best French specialists in the America’s Cup arena. Before the start of the Prada Cup, the sailor from Arcachon who is now a coach at Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, talks about the 36th Cup.

Three weeks before the start of the America’s Cup World Series in Auckland, Tip & Shaft tries to understand the design differences between the new, second AC75s of the four teams taking part to the 36th America’s Cup.
